FIRST VISIT
Patients are usually seen on an appointment basis. To schedule an appointment, you can call our office at (512)953-8362.
We will need you to provide your insurance information at least 3 days prior to your appointment so that we may determine your eligibility. Please understand that it takes a great deal of time to do and in the event that this is not done prior to your appointment, we cannot give accurate estimates for your treatment.
On the day of your appointment, we ask that you arrive to your scheduled appointment at least 15 minutes prior to fill out necessary paperwork. This ensures that you are seen at your scheduled appointment time and we are able to stay on schedule for the rest of our patients. When you arrive, you will be greeted warmly and then issued your paperwork. Sections of this paperwork will include:
-
Your information
-
The information of the insurance subscriber: Name, Date of Birth, Address, Social Security Number, Group Number, Insurance Carrier
-
Your Confidential Medical History: This is to provide us with information that may be relevant to your dental treatment.
-
Your Confidential Dental History. It is not normally necessary for us to have access to your previous dental records, so please don't worry about them.
-
HIPAA Privacy Act Acknowledgment
-
Office Policies
-
Consent for Electronic Communication
Once completed, a member of our staff will escort you to your treatment room where she will take your vitals and necessary radiographs. Dr. Walton will then review your medical and dental history, discuss your primary goals and concerns and then begin a thorough examination. This examination will include an extra-oral evaluation, intra-oral evaluation, evaluation of your TMJ, oral cancer screening, periodontal probing to check the health of your gums and bone, as well as, examination of each surface of each tooth. From there, she will discuss your treatment options and recommendations, contributing factors and preventative measures for her findings, and treatment sequencing. She will often use your xrays and intraoral pictures to help you gain an understanding of what is going on in your mouth.
If you qualify for a general cleaning, typically that will be completed at your initial evaluation. If you are in need of a "deep cleaning" or scaling and root planing, we spend the extra time ensuring that you have a clear understanding of your condition and reappoint you to begin your cleaning.
After your treatment is complete, we will discuss how often your routine examination and hygiene appointment will be. For most patients this will be every six months. We can schedule your check-up appointment or our fully integrated computer system will generate a recall to be sent to you through email or text messaging!
Following the consultation appointment, you will be given a written treatment plan, including an estimate of costs. Please remember that this is just an estimate, and we cannot guarantee coverage from your insurance. The treatment plan will be prioritized, financing options discussed and agreed upon and from there, our staff will help you schedule your next visit!
